How a psychologist can help

When you work with an experienced family therapist from Innermind Psychology, we will first set out to understand your family dynamics and patterns, and how these relate to the matter at hand. We then guide you towards communication techniques and relationship strategies that can help strengthen bonds and develop constructive solutions.

We tailor our approach and methodology for every family, as each family unit has its unique dynamics, strengths and complexities. Family therapy sessions may involve the entire family or just certain members, depending on what’s most helpful for addressing your specific needs and objectives.

Rest assured that with years of experience, including in Family Court processes, our psychologists are equipped to help guide you forward with compassion and clarity.

Family relationships can heal and grow stronger. And they do for many families who engage in family therapy together.

Frequently Asked Questions about Family Therapy

Family therapy allows everyone to communicate about what they’ve been experiencing and feeling, and in turn, listen to other family members without interrupting or reacting negatively. Everyone gets their chance to speak and respond.

Your therapist will examine and explore: your family’s approach to challenges, how you solve problems, how you communicate, how you express emotion, and how you embrace your roles within your family unit.

In doing this, your therapist can start to pinpoint how each person’s behaviour may be creating issues or contributing to conflict. Then, you will start to learn different, positive ways to interact. These new ways can break unhealthy and unproductive patterns. Together with your therapist you will also set goals and work toward these.

Each session normally takes around 1 to 1.5 hours.

This will depend on your particular situation, but usually anywhere between 6-12 sessions. But it can also be less or more.
